Scott presently works for Building Scientist Group LLC and is its lead energy efficiency consultant. Previously he founded GreenBuilt Construction, Inc. in 2003 each with the mission of bringing green building to the mainstream, making “an environmentally friendly approach” the norm. Scott is a licensed General Contractor, Real Estate Broker, both a BPI and HERS I and II instructor, a GreenPoint and LEED Rater as well as a GreenPoint Professional and LEED AP.
Scott graduated as a mechanical engineer from Purdue and went to worked at Ford Motor Company as an engineer. Scott then joined the Peace Corps and spent three years in Cameroon teaching Physics and Chemistry and later managed a staff and a team of researchers at The Elephant Camp. Upon his return to the United States he was awarded a graduate fellowship to Marquette University where he completed his MBA in 2003.
After completing his MBA, Scott moved to California to continue his education at UC Davis and began a Ph.D. in Economics. Scott, while still enrolled in the program, started GreenBuilt Construction and his passion took off.
Scott continues to reside in West Sacramento and is serving as a board member of the Multifamily Technical Steering Committee for the Building Performance Institute. He has recently served as a Commissioner on West Sacramento’s Housing Advisory Commission and Sacramento’s Historic Preservation Commission.
Scott is dedicated to building science, green construction, and has emerged as a leader in his field with years of practical experience, education, and research in the field of building performance. He has performed energy assessments and energy upgrades on hundreds of buildings including commercial, multifamily, and single family residences. He now consults on energy related issues for contractors, consultants, architects, municipalities, and teaches Building Science at Los Rios Community College.
